Martin Scores 300th NWPL Goal

Matthew Martin reached the scoring pantheon of 300 National Water Polo League goals in nearly 160 matches at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre last night.

The 11-year veteran for the Fyfe Adelaide Jets reached the mark when he scored three goals in the Jets’ 9-7 success over Hunter Hurricanes who featured Scotty Berry, pictured.

Australia Wins Holiday Cup

Anchored by tournament MVP Bronwen Knox and Top Goalie Victoria Brown, Australia took first place of the Holiday Cup women's water polo tournament on Sunday in California.

Australia defeated Russia, 11-9, on the final day of action to claim the outright title. The United States tied Canada, 8-8, and earned second place. Canada placed third in the overall standings.

The Aussie Stingers were unbeaten in the six-nation, women’s water polo round-robin tournament.

Davie Dominates for Aussies

Australia’s Jeremy Davie came close to being named to the all-star team at the FINA junior men’s water polo world championships which has concluded in Sibenik, Croatia.

He finished with 17 goals in a seven-way tie for second behind Hungary’s Andreas Batori with 24 goals in which Croatia scored the winning goal two seconds from the end of extra time to clinch the final 9-8 over Greece.

Davie was one of the event’s standout centre forwards.

Aussies Slaughter Slovaks

Australia slaughtered Slovakia 15-1 in their opening game of the FINA junior men’s water polo world championships at Sibenik, Croatia.

Playing in front of a huge Australian supporter contingent, the young Aussies showed no mercy against the Slovakians in what was one of the best performances of the day.

Jeremy Davie impressed with his three goals, two coming from centre forward and the third on a lone breakaway.

Southern Leads Australia to Victory

In Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia 16-year-old Ash Southern spearheaded Australia to an 11-9 victory over Spain in the opening match of its defence of the FINA junior women’s world water polo championships.

The precocious youngster scored four goals in the 18 years and under event, one more than team-mate Bre Appel.

Australia trailed 2-1 at the quarter but led 5-4 at halftime. The lead became 8-4 before Spain narrowed the gap to 10-8 at the final break.
